The ACLU has taken on the case of Bena Apreala a Roslindale man who says he was stopped and cornered by federal Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents while out for a jog in West Roxbury on the VFW Parkway.
“When I saw the badge and asked them if they were ICE officers and they said yes, and I explained that I wasn’t an immigrant, I’m born and raised in Boston and that I have no idea what they’re stopping me for, they said that immigration isn’t the only thing that they investigate and proceeded to question me,” Apreala told WBUR.
The agency claims it had been “conducting surveillance as part of a targeted enforcement action” and was looking for a Haitian man. Apreala feels that he was racially profiled. Mayor Marty Walsh said the video was “disturbing” and “unacceptable.”
