Officer Hit By Bullet During ‘Ambush’ actually shot himself, then lied & tried to cover it up

John Michael Goulart Jr is an officer with the Pineville, Louisiana police  who over the weekend claimed he had been ambushed and shot once in the leg.

Goulart said he had been shot once in the leg, with a second bullet hitting the rear door of his police car while he was at a shopping center in the city.

On Monday the Public Information Officer for the department said Goulart had been “ambushed” and  shots fired at the officer but that Goulart didn’t return fire on anybody. “He was exiting the patrol vehicle at the shopping center whenever he was ambushed by an unknown person at this time and two shots were fired. One striking him, and the other hit the vehicle.”

Tuesday the department stated it had  launched an investigation and found that the officer “shot himself -concealed and altered the facts.” According to Newsweek the investigation is now closed and that the officer has been charged with one count of criminal mischief and one count of malfeasance in office.
