Diamond Reynolds, has agreed to a settlement worth $925,000, for emotional damages/distress in the aftermath of the high profile shooting death of her boyfriend Philando Castile. Reynolds who was in the car at the time of the killing along with her young child, broadcast to the world what was happening live on Facebook.
Philando Castile was shot and killed by Jeronimo Yanez, a St. Anthony, Minnesota, police officer after being pulled over for a busted tail light. According to a police dashcam video/audio, after being asked for his license and registration, Castile told the officer he had a firearm, to which the officer replied ‘Don’t reach for it then’. After saying ‘Don’t pull it out’ twice, the officer shot at Castile seven times.
Reynold’s testimony was that Castile was shot while reaching for his ID after telling Yanez he was armed..
Jeronimo Yanez was charged and acquitted of 3 felonies. He was subsequently dismissed from his police force in St. Anthony, Minn., and that city reached a settlement with Castile’s family.
