During a morning press conference, Sheriff Alex Villanueva said the primary cause of the crash was speed. Villanueva said the car that Woods was driving was traveling between 84 to 87 mph in a 45 mph zone when it initially crashed into a raised median, then 75 mph when it struck a tree alongside Hawthorne Boulevard.
